Definition:
A slip ring is an electromechanical component that creates an electrical connection between a stationary and a rotating machine part.
Field of application:
It is required to enable a continuous rotational movement and transmits electrical power, control signals, and data. Typical applications are industrial robots, wind turbines, cranes, and packaging machines.
Operation:
In classic systems, stationary brushes slide over rotating metal tracks (e.g. gold contacts) in order to maintain the electrical contact. Modern high-tech versions function contactlessly, for example, by means of fiber optic data transmission (using FORJs).
Our slip rings transmit electrical power, control signals, and data – whether via Ethernet (PROFINET, EtherCAT), PROFIBUS, CC-Link, or fiberglass (FORJ). Combined with rotary joints for media such as air, water, a vacuum, or hydraulic fluids, we cover almost all requirements on rotating machine parts.
There are various types such as solid-shaft slip rings (classic), through-bore slip rings, or fiber optic rotary joints (FORJ, contactless). In the SCHLEIFRING shop, we sell classic industrial slip rings (MIA bestsellers), fiber optic rotary joints (FORJs), and rotary joints for various media (air, a vacuum, hydraulic fluid).
A slip ring transmits current and signals during continuous rotation (e.g. in industrial applications and robotics), whereas a clock spring is a component with a limited range of rotation, e.g. in automotive steering columns – it can only handle a few revolutions. A slip ring is always used for continuous rotation in machines.
Slip rings are used in every machine in which a rotating part constantly requires current or data: industrial robots, rotary tables, machine tools, packaging machines, crane systems, winding machines, and wind turbines.
Our slip rings stand for technical precision that can be measured: a service life of up to 50 million revolutions, gold-on-gold contact technology, and maintenance-free operation. Developed and manufactured in Germany by an international team made up of around 800 specialists with more than 50 years of experience.

MIA stands for Modular Industrial Application. This industrial slip ring is based on a modular system made up of functional units for power, signals, and data – individually combinable to meet your requirements.
The service life depends on the design, rotational speed, and maintenance. Our MIA slip rings achieve a service life of up to 50 million revolutions when used correctly. Fiber optic rotary joints (FORJs) are not subject to wear and function reliably for up to 200 million revolutions without signal loss.
In most cases, repairs are not economically viable. Contact us using our contact form – together with you, we will check whether refurbishment or replacement with a new MIA bestseller is the best solution.
The price depends on the design, number of tracks, voltage, current, and data protocol. Our MIA bestsellers start at a net price of approximately €2,250 and the prices are clearly displayed in the shop. Individually configured slip rings are available upon request.

Yes, the prices of all our standard products are clearly displayed in the shop. For a binding quotation please contact us directly – either using the shopping cart or our inquiry form with the subject "Request for quotation". In both cases, you will receive our quotation via e-mail.
A personal consultation appointment can be arranged to discuss the individual customization on the basis of one of our MIA bestsellers. You will find the bestsellers under the category Industrial Slip Rings. From here, a consultation appointment can be requested. Enter the desired customizations to the selected basic bestseller and we will then suggest dates for an appointment.
Yes. Select the MIA bestseller that is closest to your requirements and arrange a personal consultation appointment. During this appointment we will configure the slip ring together with you so that it meets your requirements. To enable us to optimally prepare ourselves, please state your customization wishes and the article number of the basis bestseller beforehand.
Send us your inquiry including the desired MIA basic bestseller and your customization wishes. We will then contact you to propose a time and date for an appointment. The consultation lasts approximately 15 minutes – in this time we will configure the slip ring together with you so that it suits your application.
Order process
There are two possibilities:
- Place products in the shopping cart and request the quotation directly on this basis.
- Enter the article number and quantity of the desired product in the quotation request form.
In both cases, you will receive an answer from our sales department promptly via e-mail.
Our sales department will check your request and send you a quotation. With the order on the basis of the quotation and the subsequent order confirmation from SCHLEIFRING, the order is legally binding. Please note: When paying in advance, production will not start until payment has been received.
Our products are manufactured on the basis of your requirements and have to pass rigorous quality checks. For this reason, our delivery times vary depending on the requirements. You can obtain the current delivery time for your product upon request.
Yes, orders can be placed by business customers (B2B). As soon as your data has been checked, we will send you a quotation. As soon as you order on this basis and we have sent you the order confirmation, the order is legally binding.

Many of our slip rings are maintenance-free. Whether your slip ring requires maintenance and which oil to use can be found in the respective maintenance instructions. For slip rings that require relubrication, SCHLEIFRING offers the LubeLife contact lubricant series: LowTemp (< 0 °C), Industry (0–40 °C), HighTemp (> 40 °C), Wind (–40 to 70 °C), and HighPower.
