Fiber optic rotary joints
Fiber optic rotary joints (or simply FORJs) transmit optical signals without contact and without wear over a rotating axis. No electromagnetic noise (EMC protection), no mechanically induced signal losses, and a service life of up to 200 million revolutions.
In the SCHLEIFRING shop you will find a range of FORJ variants: Single-mode version (LC/PC and FC/PC) as well as multi-mode variants (OM1 and OM4) – all as single-channel solutions with protection class IP40 and an operating temperature range from -40 °C to +85 °C.
Individual customizations are always possible: Different fiber lengths (single-mode: up to 4.0 m / multi-mode: up to 2.0 m) and connector types (FC/PC, LC/PC, SC/PC, i.a.) are available upon request. Simply let us know what your specific needs are – we would be pleased to advise you.

What are fiber optic rotary joints?
Fiber optic rotary joints transmit light signals from a stationary to a rotating part without mechanical contact at the transmission surfaces. This is based on the principle of coaxial light guidance: the beam is collimated in the stator and refocused in the rotor. Result: no wear, no EMC problems, full signal integrity even during continuous rotation. The contactless optical transmission is wear-free and supports, depending on the fiber type, data rates up to 100 Gigabit Ethernet.
Single-mode vs. multi-mode
Single-mode FORJs (SM, E9/125 µm) are suitable for applications that require the highest return loss (> 40 dB) and minimum insertion loss (< 1.5 dB) over wide wavelength ranges. Multi-mode FORJs (MM, OM1 or OM4) offer a larger core diameter (50 or 62.5 µm) and are particularly economical for short or medium distances and existing MM infrastructure.
